On 31st January, a grand Youth Convention (Vivekananda Yuva Gaurav Diwas) on ideals of Swami Vivekananda was held at Singaji Institute (Singaji Education Society), village Sandalpur, Dewas, MP (founder Pranjal Dubey ). Monks from Ramakrishna Mission – Swami Supradiptananda from Ramakrishna Mission Gwalior and Swami Urukramananda of Ramakrishna Mission Onkareswar, Smt Bharati Thakur, founder of Narmadalaya (working with adivasi children on banks of Narmada in Khargone district) inspired the youth attendees. More than 2000 youth attended the Convention. As a part of it, week-long speech competition across 25 schools of Dewas, Harda, and Sehore districts was conducted. Devotional music was also performed by the attendees. 8000 booklets on lives and teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita were distributed among the attendees. This was first such Youth Convention of AriseAwake forum ( www.ariseawake.net ) which aims at being a facilitator for the youth – both in thought as well as practice – towards ideas and spirit of Vivekananda.
AriseAwake plans to organize many such Youth Conventions at various places each year. It will also involve opportunities like service volunteering, internship with humanitarian organizations, study retreats and camps, along with lectures in colleges / universities, youth forums and organizations having substantial youth composition, and mentoring -hand holding of youth.
The AriseAwake forum is offering fellowships to young persons wanting to serve humanitarian causes, either on their own, or working in organizations with Vivekananda’s ideals. Our first two fellows are :
1. Siddhartha Parmar
Siddhartha, a Masters in Law from National Law University Kolkata, worked in ICICI Bank to purssue Masters in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics. He then moved to the small town of Khategaon in Dewas district of MP to teach and mentor rural youth through Singaji Institute of Science and Managament.
2. Md. Anwar Khan
Anwar, a B.Tech and M.tech from prestigious N.I.T. Allahabad (previously MNREC) has been working and serving Parivaar in West Bengal for last 3 and a half years, and involved in infrastructure development. He also uses his skills to many other initiatives doing humanitarian service. He is inspired by the humanistic vision of Swami Vivekananda.
Through the efforts and campaigning of AriseAwake forum a large number of organizations received financial support from miscellaneous. More than Rs 2 Cr were channeled to many organizations and projects like :
